A machine can now write a whole song from one sentence. That is remarkable, and for most people who have always wanted to make music, it is beside the point.

Nobody daydreams about receiving a song. They daydream about making one: finding the beat, stumbling on the chord that gives them goosebumps, playing it for a friend and saying I made this.

You are the one making it

Everything here is built so that the music is yours. You click the kick into the grid. You drag the pattern onto the timeline. You decide the chorus needs to hit harder. The tool's job is to make each of those steps small enough to take, and to make sure none of them can go badly wrong.

Nothing should need a manual

Music software tends to assume you already know what everything means. This assumes you do not. Notes stay inside the key you picked, so there are no wrong ones. Every musical word explains itself when you point at it. Every change can be undone, all the way back to the beginning, so curiosity is never punished.

The AI sits next to you, not in front of you

There is an AI co-producer in here, and it is deliberately limited. It cannot hand you a finished track. It edits the same project you do, with the same tools you have, in plain sight. It tells you what it changed and why musicians do that. One undo removes its whole turn.

Used well, it is a patient friend who knows music theory. Ask it for a bassline, then ask it what it just did, then change it yourself. The goal is that you need it a little less each week.

Yours, and private

Everything you make is private until you decide otherwise, one item at a time. When you do share a song, it gets a page of its own that plays in any browser. If you switch on remixing, other people can open a copy and see exactly how you built it, the way one musician has always learned from another.

What we are betting on

That the pleasure of music is in the making. That far more people can do it than believe they can. And that the right response to machines that can make anything is tools that help people make something.
